The Edo State government says it is set to implement a 9-3-4 model of learning as a means of addressing some of the challenges in the basic education system.
Governor Godwin Obaseki who said this during the inspection of New Era College Benin which will serve as one of the Senior Secondary Schools to be activated in the state by September also promised the new policy will take care of children with special needs.
Unlike the present 6-3-3-4 system, the 9-3-4 system will classify the first nine years from Primary one to Junior Secondary school three as basic education and three years for Senior Secondary Classes before moving on to higher institutions for another four years.
Commissioner for Education, Joan Oviawe also said the new policy is designed to ensure an all round development of the childThree thousand teachers are set to be retrained for the implementation of this policy which is expected to commence next month.
