The Church: A Place for Spiritual Growth, Not Socializing - Ajibola Bolaji J.

In today's churches, it's easy to get caught up in socializing and forget the true purpose of gathering together. As Ajibola Bolaji Jethro so aptly puts it, "There are two types of people in church: those who are there for spiritual growth and those who treat it like a social club."

He mentioned vividly on his recent Facebook post:

Are you guilty of prioritizing gossip and small talk over spiritual growth? Do your conversations with fellow churchgoers revolve around the latest news, fashion trends, or juicy scandals? If so, it's time for a reality check.

The Bible warns us, "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character'" (1 Corinthians 15:33). When our conversations focus on idle gossip rather than spiritual growth, we're missing the mark. Instead, we should be sharpening each other like iron, discussing topics that edify and uplift (Proverbs 27:17).

Let's shift our focus from socializing to spiritual growth. Ask yourself:

- Are my conversations with fellow churchgoers centered around prayer, the Word, and spiritual growth?

- Am I building others up with my words, or tearing them down with gossip?

- Are my friendships in church based on spiritual growth, or mere socializing?

Remember, Ephesians 4:29 advises, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

Let's strive to be prayer partners and Word companions, not just social club members. May our conversations be uplifting, spiritual, and centered around growth.
