On 1st October, 1960, the Union Jack flag of the British Empire was lowered and replaced by a green and white flag, designed by Taiwo Akinkunmi at Independence Square in Lagos. Princess Alexandra of Kent, the official representative of Queen Elizabeth of England handed Nigeria’s symbol of Independence to the Nation’s first indigenous speaker of parliament, Jaja Nwachukwu.
The hope and optimism could be capture on the face of many Nigerians especially the youths. Within Five years of limited self-government, the indigenous leaders were able to achieve commendable feat. Unfortunately, in January 1966, those momentums of greatness were punctured by tragic military coup. The Federal Military Government took over after the coup till 29th May, 1999, aside the 4years of civil rule (Between 1979-1983). The successive Governments before May 1999 were marred with series of coups and counter coups.
- Since the return of democracy, the nation has struggled to shake off the effect of Military rule and the civil war. Successive democratic tenures are accused of corruption and millions of citizens are left in abject poverty. Millions of Nigeria youths are underemployed/ unemployed and the less privilege are not empowered.
- Although the government is lacking in catering for the basic needs of her people, some private individuals has took it upon themselves to empower the youths and help the less privilege. One of those individual is Prince Amb. (Dr) Kazeem Eletu.
Prince Amb. (Dr) Kazeem Eletu is a youth devoid of tribalism, a preacher of Peace and one Nigeria. He is a silent achiever who has impacted positively into the life of the youth and the less privilege.
The leadership of Congress of Nigerian Youths honored Prince Kazeem Eletu with an outstanding award to appreciate his good work and contribution to the social-economic development of the nation.
